Initiative: Jeddah Tech Volunteers (The “Living API”)
Strategic Partner: Ma’amni Innovation Incubator
- Executive Summary
This PoC aims to bridge the gap between physical community assets (Spaces) and digital trust (Blockchain). By acting as a Human-Technical API, the Jeddah Tech Volunteers will facilitate the recording of social and innovative impact on an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2), creating a permanent, transparent “Impact Ledger” for the city of Jeddah. - The Problem Statement
Community contributions—from space owners to technical volunteers—are currently fragmented and lack a unified verification system. Traditional “paper-based” reporting is slow, prone to bias, and difficult for incubators like Ma’amni to verify when allocating resources or funding. - The Proposed Solution (The “API” Model)
We propose a three-tier architecture that mirrors the Retroactive Public Goods Funding (RetroPGF) model:
- The Physical Layer: Local space owners provide the infrastructure for innovation.
- The Connectivity Layer (Our Team): We function as the API, capturing data from these spaces and translating it into verifiable on-chain events.
- The Ledger Layer: Using Ethereum Layer 2, we issue “Impact Cards” (Digital Assets) that prove who did what, where, and the quality of the result.
- Technical Architecture
Component Technology Role
Network Ethereum Layer 2 (Optimism/Arbitrum) High speed, near-zero gas fees for recording impact.
Data Protocol Hypercerts / Attestation Service Creating unique “Impact Slices” for each activity.
Storage IPFS / Filecoin Storing photos, videos, and proof of work decentrally.
Interface Impact Dashboard A public visual map of Jeddah’s innovation footprint. The “Golden Scenario” (Trial Run)- Activation: A space owner hosts a 3-day coding bootcamp supported by Ma’amni.
- API Integration: Jeddah Tech Volunteers automate the check-in and milestone tracking.
- On-chain Minting: Upon completion, a digital Impact Card is minted on the L2. It is signed by the Space, the Team, and the Incubator.
- Retro-Reward: Ma’amni uses this ledger to provide future grants or perks to the space owner based on the proven impact, not just the promise of it.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Verifiability: 100% of recorded activities must be independently verifiable on a block explorer.
- Efficiency: Reduce the “Impact-to-Ledger” time from weeks (reports) to seconds (on-chain).
- Scalability: The ability to onboard 5 new physical spaces in the first 3 months.
💡 Why This Matters (The Value Prop)
By building this Decentralized Impact Ledger, Jeddah becomes a global pioneer in “Phygital” (Physical + Digital) governance. We aren’t just volunteering; we are building the trust infrastructure for the future of the Saudi innovation ecosystem.
